Great bio on David Crockett. Looking forward to Part II. By the way, is there any historical evidence that Crockett was ever called “Davy?” Or is that a Disney creation?
Well, according to the Tennessee Encyclopedia, the name “Davy” was used in a play by a Kentucky actor named Frank Mayo late in the nineteenth century. Mayo was an actor and comedian who played Crockett in the play starting in 1872, so that would certainly predate Disney.
