On this day 99 years ago Charles Elwood Yeager was born in Myra, West Virginia. Chuck Yeager went on to become a Brigadier General in the U.S. Air Force, a pilot in World War II, and a test pilot who became the first pilot to exceed the speed of sound in 1947.

He passed away on December 7, 2020, in Los Angeles.
