Buried Alive – The Story of Octavia Hatcher

Spread the love

James Hatcher married Octavia Smith in Pikeville, Kentucky, in 1889. The couple had a son, Jacob, who died shortly after his birth and Octavia soon spiraled into a deep depression which led to her slipping into a coma. She was pronounced dead (without an autopsy) on May 2, 1891 and was buried in Pikeville Cemetery.

But she may not have been dead after all.

Today on our YouTube channel we tell the tragic story of Octavia Hatcher, another bit of the history of Appalachia.
