General John Wilder established foundries in Rockwood and Johnson City, he ran for and won an election for mayor of Chattanooga, he bought an interest in the iron ore mine at Cranberry, North Carolina, and, most importantly for our story, he built a fine hotel at the top of one of the highest mountains east of the Mississippi River.

Today we tell the story of the Cloudland Hotel, 166 rooms with a spectacular view of the Appalachian mountains in five states.
