Spread the love

In the early part of the 19th century, a woman was arrested for the gruesome murder of her husband in what’s now Mitchell County, North Carolina.

Some said she acted in jealousy, others say she reacted to ongoing spousal abuse to protect herself and her baby daughter.

Today we tell the story of Frankie Silver, the first woman to be hanged in North Carolina.

  1. Nancy did go to her Stuart kin in Macon County and at age 5 her grandmother Barbara Stuart got custody and she moved back to Mitchell County. She married David Parker in 1850. She kept all her children with her until she moved back to Macon County in 1870. One stayed in Yancey County. If you want to know more about Nancy read the book “A Life for Nancy Daughter of Frankie Silver”. Also you can read about her husband “Pen in Hand David Parker Civil war letters”
