Moonshine, Murder and a Hatfield Jailbreak

Spread the love

In 1923 two moonshiners killed a man in Dickenson County, Virginia, over a bad run of moonshine.

The two were tried and sentenced in Clintwood, then sent to the jail in Wise to await transportation to the state prison system. It was there that the two masterminded a mass jailbreak, led by the older of the two, John Hatfield, who claimed to be Devil Anse Hatfield’s cousin.

Today Steve and Rod tell you that story.
